Port Orange

Established just after the Civil War, Port Orange had a fairly long, proud and uneventful history. It retained a resort-like character and a relatively stable population for well over a century.

Then in the mid 1970’s, the decision was made to extend Dunlawton Avenue from the FEC railroad to Interstate 95… and the growth has been non-stop. But the residents of Port Orange had a vision beyond the norm. They dreamed of a community that integrated residential, business and recreational areas. With 150 distinctive neighborhoods – each offered certain amenities and home styles based on location, natural surroundings and demand. Industrial areas were set aside for businesses to support the community and its residents, and roadways were built to connect major thoroughfares and make commuting a breeze.

Impressive to be sure – but it doesn’t end there. Thinking far into the future – 5, 10, 20 years and more, the community asked all the right questions – how can Port Orange continue to grow, providing the highest quality of life for its residents and attracting new business for years to come? How can the city progress in a positive direction maintaining the standards of living vital to those that live, work and play here?
