Meet Jerry

One of these statements about Jerry is not true. Can you tell which one?

1. He received his MBA from the University of Chicago in 1972.
2. He lives in a condo on the beach with Vivian, his wife of 40 years.
3. His favorite beach is the 3 mile pink sand beach on Harbour Island in the Bahamas.
4. He has 2 children and 3 grandchildren, Corinne, Grant, and Noah, The Castle Group’s junior agents.

When Jerry Bellairs graduated from the University of Illinois back in the ‘60’s, he found himself with a college degree, a wife and two kids. Deciding that an MBA would only help his professional life – whatever that may turn out to be – he got one from the University of Chicago. “Two kids... still in school, no job...it was interesting –and great because I got to spend so much time while they were young”

Degrees in hand, he signed on with Arthur Young & Company, a public accounting firm. One of his assignments as a Young Accountant was auditing the books of the Associated Coca-Cola Bottling Company, in Daytona Beach, Florida. “It was the best job you could imagine – 2-3 months in Daytona every winter, with my family, on the beach...beat the heck out of winter in Chicago!”

But, Jerry knew that accounting was not his destiny. His interests soon turned to the media. Buying, building and selling radio stations was a way to put his MBA to work for him...but thoughts of the old days on the sunny, sandy beaches of Daytona continually crept into his dreams. “As soon as we sold our stations in the Chicago area, we headed south. Winters in Daytona Beach had really spoiled us.”

Daytona wasn’t the first stop for Jerry, his wife Vivian and their two kids, Vivian and Mason. The radio business kept them in Southwest Florida for a while. When the Bellairs finally sold their station, one of the buyers asked Jerry to find him a few other properties for him. That search brought Jerry and Vivian back to Daytona in 1994 and the birth of WKRO - the KRO. In 1996 assisted his client in the purchase of WNDB and what is now “The HOG”). Jerry ran WNDB for a year, then retired. “I love to retire. It’s a lot of fun. Until I get bored, then I love going back to work.”

During this period of retirement, Jerry and Vivian traveled the globe in search of the world’s perfect beach. They collected great memories from the Bahamas, the Caribbean, South America and Asia. “We love Koh Samui in Thailand, and we make it down to Harbour Island in the Bahamas every year or two. But Daytona is still our favorite beach. There’s no place like home.”

Around the world and back again to find that the world’s most perfect beach is right outside their front door. With that research under his belt, Jerry has become the unofficial spokesperson of Daytona Beach. There are few better qualified to extol the virtues of Daytona and the surrounding areas.

Back to work indeed, Jerry has become one of Daytona’s foremost real estate agent with a team of luxury residential specialists who love Daytona just as much as he does.

Another retirement coming soon? “No way! I’m having too much fun. Building The Castle Group, planning its future, finding the right team members...and you just cannot beat that feeling when you help somebody achieve their dream lifestyle – a new home on the beach,
the retirement home they’ve been working toward or a first home...no, I can’t see retiring from something I love so much.”

Seems like paradise takes many forms...for Jerry Bellairs, its found in the simple things like spending time with his wife in their oceanfront condo, visiting with the grandkids,
